SPOILED GIRL

Season 8

Episode 75

(Ray game)

Not long after Tyron left, Emily picked up her design board again to continue drawing. However, judging by the amount of crumpled paper balls strewn all over the floor, it was clear that something was bothering Emily, as she failed at every attempt to come up with an idea that did not make her want to tear her hair out. "This is pointless. I'd better give up drawing today,"

Emily sighed, looking at the paper and the work it contained, shaking her head in disapproval. If satisfaction was what she was hoping to get, she wasn't going to get it here.

Suddenly, the sound of the doorknob twisting open relieved her disappointment and shifted her attention towards the door.

Didn't Tyron leave just minutes ago?

Did he come back again? Emily's focus was momentarily scattered, filled with nervous anticipation.

A man dressed in black barged in abruptly without sound or word. His head was covered by a peaked cap and his face hidden behind a black gas mask.

Emily's shoulders shook in fear the moment her eyes caught sight of the ominously garbed man. Stupefied, her voice trembled every time she uttered a word. "Who are you? What do you want from me?"

While hoping to distract the intruder's attention with her talking, Emily slowly stretched out her hand to the knife on the desk next to her bed.

"Who do you think I am?"

Upon seeing the suspicion and constant vigilance in Emily's eyes, the man took his mask off to calm her nerves.

"Ray? "

A shriek of excitement escaped Emily's mouth when she saw the familiar face of a young boy with an angelic face.

With a bemused frown between her eye-brows, she lowered her voice and said, "Why did you dress up like this just to come here? I almost mistook you for a robber."

Letting go of the knife's hilt, Emily breathed out, unaware of how long she had been holding her breath. Out of all the people in the world, Ray was the last person she expected to see there.

"I am sorry if I frightened you. I had no choice but to do this." Ray pulled a chair up and flumped down onto it, facing Emily. Taking a brief pause to catch his breath, he continued, "This was the only way that I could think of to avoid being recognized by anyone. I am almost certain that President Gu would not want to deal with the gossips if you and I made it to tomorrow's headlines."

Ray's words couldn't be any truer as Jacob, indeed, had a lot on his plate right now. He was embroiled in an on-going war between the members of the Bai and Fang Group. For reasons that weren't clear, even to Jacob. Looking over to the sides and once over his shoulder, Ray made sure that they were the only people in the ward. In fact, he was specifically looking out for Jacob.

He had carefully chosen this time to pay Emily a visit because he knew that Jacob wouldn't be here during these hours.

"What are you talking about?" Emily squinted her eyes in curiosity trying hard to read the information from his face. 'What did he mean that Jacob wouldn't want to deal with the gossips? What gossips is he even talking about?

Something's not right!' Emily's suspicions were aroused.

Ray didn't want to seem perturbed. Feigning casual confidence, he took of his peaked cap to adjust his slicked-back hair and then smoothly changed the topic, "By the way I still haven't forgiven you for hanging up on me like that. That's wasn't nice, I have to say. Aren't you going to make it up to me?"

After Ray had overheard Jacob's voice through the phone, what puzzled, or more accurately, baffled him, was why Emily was so afraid of Jacob. 'How dare she hang up on me like that?'

"Well," Emily looked at him with a plain expression and sighed, "I hung up because you were insisting on making unreasonable requests, even though you knew what my answer was."

Ray had asked her to get a divorce with Jacob. How was that even possible? If she wanted to get a divorce, she wouldn't have married Jacob.

Emily's blithe indifference somehow further exasperated Ray, yet he still pretended to be as calm as a cucumber.
Raising an eyebrow arrogantly, he scoffed, "What's so good about Jacob? He is old and wrinkly. He's bossy. But look at you! You are so young and beautiful. Believe me, you can do better."
Emily felt deeply insulted. This was the first time she had heard a person speak of Jacob in such manner in front of her. Bossy? Perhaps so, but Emily disagreed with everything else, and she said, "No matter what you say, you will never be half the man he is."

The look of disgust in Emily's eyes more than her actual words crushed Ray's heart. As his face darkened with a mirthless glare, Emily curled her lips in disdain, showing no compassion or concern.

'Who does this young man think he is? And where does he get the audacity to tell me to get a divorce?' Emily was fuming. Ray clenched his fists, glaring at Emily with fiery eyes and growled, "Emily, what's so good about Jacob?"

"To me? Everything about him." As the old saying—"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". Emily's answer, without hesitation, wiped away any hope Ray had left.

Nevertheless, who was he to question whether Jacob was good enough anyway? Every woman in the entire country would be up in arms to end up with a man like Jacob. As a matter of fact, Emily thanked her lucky stars that the most perfect man in the world had fallen in love with her.

"..."

Ray had no words to describe the depth of his disappointment as he shook his head from side to side.

"Ray, I really appreciate that you are willing to help me, and to express my gratitude, I would like to make it up to you someday. But what you're asking of me is something I simply cannot even take into consideration."

Emily took pity on the young boy sitting across her on the chair with a dumbfounded look on his face.

Ray was so shocked, and he became stiff as a board from holding his breath too long. Suddenly, as Ray finally awoke into consciousness again, his long eyelashes concealed his lowered eyes and he said, in almost a murmur, "I'm sorry. I was just joking with you."

Abruptly raising his head and brushing his flaxen hair back, he stood up and winked at Emily, "Anyway, please don't forget that you owe me one."

'Ray went through all that trouble of disguising himself just to visit me in the hospital for a joke?

How childish is he?' Emily couldn't help criticizing him in her heart, but she replied, "Don't worry. I will not forget it."

Smiling at him casually, she continued, "By the way, didn't I say on the phone that I was okay?

You didn't have to come visit me, you know?"

Although Ray might have had noble intentions to pay her a visit personally, his gesture, however, came off as a bit unnecessary and desperate since they barely knew each other.

Furthermore, as a popular celebrity, Ray's each and every move hardly went unnoticed by the public. So how could Brook allow him to come here?

"How could you say that? I came here to see you because I was worried about you. And what do I get for it? Nothing but doubt. That hurts, Emily."

Ray's voice choked up, almost on the verge of tears.

"Take it easy. You've misunderstood me." Much to her surprise and chagrin, Emily realized that Ray was easily angered. She waved her hands at him, gesturing him to calm down.

"What I mean is..." Emily crossed her arms as she looked him up and down, "Does your agent know that you've come here to visit me?"

Since Brook didn't come with Ray, it was obvious that Ray came here without his knowledge. Emily felt disconcerted by this.

"What does he have to do with my personal life?" While speaking, Ray curled his lips and allowed his sights wander around for a bit, before he sat back on the chair slowly.

As a matter of fact, Brook had no idea that Ray was going to pull something like this. If anything, Brook had made it abundantly clear to Ray that he was no longer allowed to keep in touch with Emily anymore, especially, after Jacob had personally come to the studio to talk to him.

But why would Ray listen to Brook?

Because Jacob was the most powerful man in all of the country? Ray showed a disdainful expression, clucking his tongue and shaking his head to the rhythm of his clucks.

Suddenly, it seemed as though a light bulb had flashed on inside his head. With a surprised look on his face, he walked towards the bed and picked up the box of chocolates Tyron had given to Emily.

"Do you like this kind of chocolates too?"
The young boy changed between emotions so rapidly that Emily could barely keep up long enough to figure out his thought patterns. A moment ago, he was on the verge of a breakdown, and now, he was holding a box of chocolates with the same joyful glow in his eyes that Beryl would get at the sight of her favorite strawberry cake.

"Yeah... a friend of mine gave that to me." Emily nodded her head.

Although, Ray's sudden interest over a box of chocolates seemed odd to her, she couldn't help feeling soft in the heart and showing her eager kindness.

"Would you like to try some? If you like this bar of chocolate, you can unwrap it and give it a try. But don't eat too much. We can't have a star like you going around with bad teeth."

Ray stared at the box of chocolates in his hand for a while and then sighed deeply. The disappointment on his face was apparent when he said, "Never mind. I can't eat this."
