(There“s Only You and Me Here (1)

Huo Mian glanced at him coldly and walked past him without a word.

“Mian, you’re not familiar with the terrain. It’s dangerous to walk around without a guide.”

“Are you afraid that I will escape?”

Hearing her words, Huo Siqian smiled.

“There’s not even a boat on the island; how can you escape? You know, it takes two to three days to reach the nearest land by boat; I’m not worried that you will escape.”

Hearing his words, Huo Mian’s heart sank in desperation.

“I want to get some fresh air and won’t go far. Don’t follow me.”

Tossing the words over her shoulder, Huo Mian walked out.

To her relief, Huo Siqian didn’t follow her probably because he knew she was now very distressed.

Besides, she was pregnant and would get emotional and say outrageous words.

It took her more than two hours to walk around the small island.

All the paths on the island were dirt roads; everything was primitive.

Compared with those man-made tourism resorts, this was an undeveloped island.

On the big island, there were all kinds of wildflowers, wild berries and fruits, and tropical plants she didn’t recognize.

There were many small animals.

On the whole island, there was only a small wooden cottage with one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom.

It wasn’t big but had all the necessities.

Huo Mian wondered how long Huo Siqian had planned and developed this island.

But she had been stunned when Huo Siqian said it took two to three days by boat to reach the nearest landmass.

In the setting sun, she looked at the clouds in the dusk and seagulls soaring on the sea. Looking at the beautiful scenery of the ocean becoming one with the sky, she felt nothing but sadness.

She didn’t return until it was almost dark.

Entering the cottage, she smelt the scent of delicious food.

Huo Mian saw Huo Siqian walking out from the kitchen wearing a blue cotton shirt and black cloth shoes.

“I was planning to go out and look for you. You came back just in time for supper.”

“I don’t want to eat.”

With a cold expression, Huo Mian walked toward the bedroom.

Huo Siqian didn’t say anything and put the dishes on the table as usual.

The food was plain. One was a stir-fried wild vegetable growing on the island; it looked temptingly green.

The second dish was scrambled eggs.

The last dish was fish. Huo Siqian went fishing at the shore each day and came back with all kinds of fish.

Sometimes it was a big fish and other times he cooked several smaller ones; he tried to cook fish in all kinds of styles just to make Huo Mian happy.

“Mian, you’re pregnant and must eat more fish; it’s said the babies will be smart if their mothers eat fish during their pregnancies.”

Huo Mian didn’t speak.

Patiently, Huo Siqian put the dishes onto a platter and placed it on the table before Huo Mian.

“I know you don’t like eating meals with me. You eat here and I’ll eat in the kitchen, okay?”

Looking at the food, Huo Mian suddenly was struck by a surge of fury.

She lifted her hand and knocked the platter to the floor.

After a long while, Huo Siqian smiled in resignation.

“You don’t like the food I cooked for you in the last couple of days? Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll get my men to bring it to us next month.”

“Huo Siqian, how long do you plan to keep me here like a pet? Do you think it’s fun?” Huo Mian lost her temper.

“Of course, you’re not a pet. Mian, we are family; I take you as my family.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. We’ve never been family either in feelings or genes… Huo Siqian, don’t deceive yourself. How much longer are you going to live in your dream?”
