(Dark Night Before Dawn (9)

“Who is it? Who’s there?” Zhang Manlin was starting to freak out.

No one spoke, and the shadow was slowly getting closer…

“Help…” Before she could say any more, the shadow darted towards her.

Then, it slid its hand over her mouth to cover it.

Trying to see amid the moonlight coming from outside, Zhang Manlin slowly raised her head.

Then, her pupils enlarged… more and more…

The man standing before her had a sinister grin. He was wearing a black leather jacket, and his hairstyle was different than usual.

This was the first time she had seen ever seen him with such an unruly appearance. She was stunned.

“Big Brother Qian…” Zhang Manlin almost couldn’t hear the sound of her own voice as she trembled violently.

“Big Brother Qian? Oh… I see you’ve mistaken me for that love-struck idiot…” The man’s voice was a little raspy and most definitely different from usual.

“Big Brother Qian… I know that I’ve disrespected you. Please don’t kill me, okay? I don’t want to die. I know I’ve done wrong. I promise, I’ll never do it again. I’ve already been punished enough. Once I get out of the hospital, I’ll go back to my home village in the mountains and I will never come back. Don’t kill me, please… I’m begging you.”

Zhang Manlin was afraid of Huo Siqian the most, and in fact, she didn’t plan to betray him at all!

After all, it was the twins and Qin Chu whose plan had set up Zhang Manlin.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been bold enough to even dare do what she did. Over the past five years, she had come to know what kind of person Huo Siqian was.

Especially when he laughed, it terrified people and gave them goosebumps.

“Like I said, I’m not him. He really has been too kind as of late. When running into traitors like you, he doesn’t even kill them. Instead, he merely disfigures them, am I right?”

Huo Siqian, or rather his second personality, Jack, was firmly grasping Zhang Manlin’s chin.

Then, he stared at her face that was covered with gauze…

“Big Brother Qian, don’t…” Zhang Manlin had already been scared senseless. She had no idea at all how to distinguish whether the person in front of her was Huo Siqian or another personality.

She just thought that if Huo Siqian showed up here in person, then she would be dead meat.

“Tsk tsk… if he doesn’t have the heart to do it, then I’ll just do it for him. The murder will be on his head anyway. This is such dog shit, he’s taking so many pills; he wants to snuff me out…”

Jack’s eyes were full of resentment.

Since Huo Siqian had recently been taking a large number of drugs that inhibit brain nerves, Jack hadn’t had a chance to appear for quite some time.

In a rare occurrence, Huo Siqian was approving documents until very late at night, so he forgot to take his medicine. This gave Jack a chance.

The first thing he wanted to do when he came out was to cause a little ruckus.

“If I kill you and then just strut out of the hospital, the security camera will catch everything. Should I see how he handles things then? Hehe… I don’t think he’d be willing to go to jail.”

After saying this, Jack covered Zhang Manlin’s mouth with one hand and firmly grabbed her by the neck with the other.

Zhang Manlin suddenly felt like she couldn’t breathe.

“Big… Brother… Qian… don’t… do it.” She was trying to say something, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t make a sound.

For the first time, she felt like death was so near. Huo Siqian was using all of his strength. Zhang Manlin knew that he wanted to kill her off.

At that moment…

There were footsteps outside the ward…

Then there was the sound of knocking at the door.

Jack slightly furrowed his brow…
