(Everybody Loves Zhang Manlin (8)

“One month of time… it’ll be great if we succeed… but what if we fail? What are you going to do then?”

“I have my own plans for that. Don’t worry about it.”

“Alright, I got it.”

“Cheng, drive Lin-Lin home.”

Yes, Boss.”

After Cheng and Zhang Manlin left, Huo Siqian sat down on his leather seat and let out a long sigh.

If Zhang Manlin failed to drive a wedge between Qin Chu and Huo Mian within the one-month deadline given by Ian, Huo Siqian’s only option would be to activate Plan B…

If that happens… it’ll be another bloodbath…

Su Yu received a call from An when he arrived home. The latter informed him that the investigation turned up nothing. It really was strange.

Just then, Wei Liao sent him a message on Wechat.

Wei Liao: “Su Yu, asleep?”

Su Yu: “Not yet, what’s up?”

Wei Liao: “Just wanted to talk.”

Su Yu: “About what?”

Wei Liao: “About that girl who looks like Huo Mian.”

Su Yu: “What’s there to talk about?”

Wei Liao: “Su Yu, I think this is a great chance for you…”

Su Yu: “What chance?”

Wei Liao: “Seriously? You’re going to play dumb with me? You’ve liked Huo Mian for years and you know that it’s not going anywhere. You don’t go on dates and you don’t try to look for a girlfriend, making everyone in our circle question your sexuality. Even your mom’s asked me about your sexual orientation. So, I think it’s time for you to give everyone an answer.”

Su Yu: “So? What should I do?”

Wei Liao: “I think this girl is a good match for you. Think about it. She looks like Mian and her personality’s similar to Mian as well! Plus, she’s young and sensible. Isn’t that great for you?”

Su Yu: “So what you’re saying is, since I can’t get the real thing, I might as well settle for a counterfeit product?”

Wei Liao: “…”

Su Yu’s analogy made Wei Liao speechless yet wanting to laugh.

“Honey, who are you talking to? It looks intense.” Jiang Xiaowei came over wearing a face mask, settling her head against his shoulder.

“I’m trying to persuade Su Yu.”

“What’s happening?” Jiang Xiaowei was the only person unbeknownst to the existence of Zhang Manlin.

Wei Liao proceeded to describe in detail of their encounter with Zhang Manlin the other day, not forgetting to add his opinions.

Finally, he asked, “Baby, do you think I was wrong?”

“I think it was a dumb thing to do,” Jiang Xiaowei said with a straight face.

Wei Liao:”…”

“Honey, you don’t have to be so honest…”

“No offense, but for a smart man, you’re kind of an airhead this time. Su Yu likes Mian because she’s one of a kind. She can’t be replaced just because some woman looks like her or acts like her… If he could move on that easily, it wouldn’t be real love. That’s called infatuation.”

“I’m just worried about Su Yu’s love life…”

“But his love life isn’t something that’s forcible. I am very interested in the woman you’re talking about, though. I really want to see her. How could she be so similar to Mian?”

“Yea! I was completely shocked when I saw her! Seriously, she looked exactly like a young version of Huo Mian…” Wei Liao commented.

“That’s very strange… haha… I guess I should find a chance to meet her. I hope nothing bad is going to happen.”

Jiang Xiaowei was a meticulous woman, not one to see things at face value.

Huo Mian didn’t mention the coffee meeting between Qin Chu and Zhang Manlin. After she returned home, she put the twins to bed and entered her bedroom.

After Qin Chu came back, they had a brief exchange of words and then went to bed.

-The next morning –

“Mian, are you working overtime tonight?”

“Not sure yet, why?” At the breakfast table, Huo Mian looked at Qin Chu with a sandwich in her hands.
