(Retired After Winning Merit, Honourable Although Defeated (4)

After listening to Zhixin’s words, Huo Mian’s eyes dimmed slightly…

“Nothing yet…”

“Sis… don’t be sad. I believe… my brother-in-law is still alive… don’t give up.”

“I know, I will wait for him.”

“Be happy, that way we won’t have to worry about you.”

“I will.”

“I’m going to bed then. Sis, good night!”

After hanging up, Huo Mian barely had the time to feel sentimental when she heard someone knocking on the door.

“Come in…”

Rick came in alone. The bodyguard with him stopped at the door…

He wore a crisp long-sleeved, black t-shirt. He looked as cold and indifferent as he always did.

In his hands were two giant gift boxes; he seemed to have come prepared.

“Rick… why are you here?”

“I heard about the birth of the twins. Congratulations, Huo Mian.”

“Thank you.” Huo Mian smiled sweetly.

“These are my gifts to the twins. You know that I am a dull person… and I don’t know how to select gifts… Coincidentally, I just went back to the US a few days ago… I went to a jewelry store with my brother… and saw this pearl set… so I bought two sets.”

Rick put the gifts in front of Huo Mian…

“You are too kind. They’re infants, you didn’t have to get them such expensive gifts…”

“As their uncle, I had to buy something.”

“Rick, why didn’t Xixi come with you?” Huo Mian asked deliberately.

“We broke up…” Rick faintly answered.

“Really? Because of the accident last time?”

“Partly, but that’s not the only reason… Anyways, it’s a long story. I’m sure that Xixi would be happier without me. She should date someone else….”

Rick looked very sad…

“But you are not Xixi, how would you know what she is thinking? What if she thinks she is happiest when she’s with you?” Huo Mian’s words made Rick speechless.

“It is what it is… just let it be. I plan to slowly relocate my business this year… I may go back to the US by the end of the year.”

“You’re leaving?” Huo Mian was stunned.

“Yes. No one is taking care of my brother’s business over there… I’ve been living carefree here for a long time, it’s only right for me to take responsibility within the family…”

“So, you’re going to leave Xixi like this… Are you sure you will have no regrets?”

“No one can be certain when it comes to relationships, and I don’t know how to talk love either… Let it be so, as I am already very satisfied.”

Hearing Rick say this, Huo Mian didn’t want to persuade him anymore. After all, Rick’s character was too dull, and his relationship with Xixi wasn’t something that could be explained clearly in just a few words…

“One month from now, I’m throwing a one-month birthday party at Su Yu’s family home. Please remember to come.”

“Sure.” Rick nodded without hesitation.

After Rick left… Huo Mian was just about to lie down to rest when her phone started to ring again…

Seeing that number was from Huo Siqian, Huo Mian did not want to pay attention to it at first.

But, she was also curious about what he wanted that she, for some strange reason, picked up the phone…

“Wow… You actually picked up my call. Mian, I guess you don’t hate me as much as I thought you did….”

“Stop with the nonsense, what do you want?”

“I heard that you gave birth… Congratulations.”

“I don’t need your congratulations.”

“I bought the twins some gifts, and I will have them sent to you at the hospital.”

“I won’t accept it. Huo Siqian, stop pretending to be a good guy… You ruined my whole family… so don’t come to me displaying fake empathy… What do you really want?”

“Mian… All I did all of this because… I want to have you… Don’t tell me that you don’t understand…” Huo Siqian’s voice ran gently over the phone…

“But you killed Qin Chu. I’m never going to forgive you.” Huo Mian’s voice wavered with emotion.

“No, baby, don’t get upset… Are you sure Qin Chu is really dead?”

“What do you mean by that?” Huo Mian froze. She felt like he was trying to imply something.
