IN LOVE WITH A SOLDIER

SEASON 6

EPISODE 17

(A better Mond(2)

"I have no say in this. Ask your mom," Jackson replied. He never interfered in matters of Joe. Cherry was in charge of taking care of and instructing their son, whereas he was merely in charge of keeping him accompany and entertaining him.

"Mom, I want to play a little longer," Joe pleaded sweetly, looking as pathetic as he could. He hoped that Cherry would allow him to play another thirty minutes after she saw his big puppy eyes.

"Joe, go upstairs and practice the piano for an hour. You can't slack off just because you haven't had a class recently.

It is important to keep practicing the old pieces again and again, if you want to upgrade your skill. You should review what you have learnt before your piano class begin next Monday. You will have to practice it today, but tomorrow you can have a day off," Cherry said patiently. Her soft words didn't pressure Joe but convinced him.

"Okay, I will," Joe complied, and then dropped his remote and walked upstairs, not completely reluctant. He liked learning piano but was too lazy to practice.

Jackson switched on the television, tuned into a soap operas channel and sat beside Cherry.

"Jean said that Mond wasn't at home. So I will call him and ask where he is now," Cherry said, in Jackson's arms. Jackson nodded silently. His mind was preoccupied with other matters.

Cherry dialed Mond's number.

"Hello," Mond's cold voice resounded across the phone.

"Where are you now?" Cherry asked as she heard the faint sound of music.

As the conversation progressed, the music faded away.

"What's up?" Mond asked, ignoring Cherry's question.

"Well, do you have time tomorrow? Jackson and I plan to take you and Jean out to a meal," Cherry replied in a low voice. She already regretted this idea for it seemed that Mond was in a bad mood.

"Huh, a meal? Cherry, what do you want?" Mond asked with a sneer.

Cherry was stunned when she heard his words. All of sudden, she didn't know how to respond.

After a pause, Cherry answered," Mond, don't get me wrong. I bear no ill will to you. You helped me once, so I want to return the favor. That's all. You don't have to degrade me. I know your true characteristics and you have a soft side just like my husband. You don't need to hide your feelings with me."

"Cherry, stop being self-important," Mond shouted hoarsely into the phone. The music was still playing.

"Mond, maybe it's a bad time to call you now. How about I call you again tomorrow?" Cherry suggested. 'I can tell that Mond isn't sober now from his voice. From the noises in the background, he seemed to be in a bar.

Perhaps it's not a good time tell him about that, ' she meditated.

As Cherry was about to end their conversation, Mond's voice came to her.

"When?" Mond asked suddenly.

Cherry was stunned, and then answered," At 6:00 pm tomorrow. I will send you the address later."

Cherry expected Mond to say more and end the conversation on a good note, but he hung up immediately.

Jackson had heard their entire conversation as he sat next to Cherry. He didn't know what exactly to make of it.

"Jackson, do you think Mond will come tomorrow?" Cherry asked, as she put her phone aside and snuggled up against Jackson's chest. She was concerned that he would put on bad behavior at their dinner tomorrow.

"I don't know. If he wants, he will come. Otherwise he won't show up even you compel him to come," Jackson answered, holding Cherry closer to his chest.

"I feel that he was upset tonight.

Perhaps something happened," Cherry said with a frown, and then thought of the noises she had heard on the phone.

Jackson didn't want to dwell on the matter anymore. He had no intention of interacting with Mond or meddling with his matters.

"Come on. Don't think too much. Let's go to bed," Jackson said. 'I hate seeing her worried all the time. I wish she could relax a bit and just be happy, ' he thought.

"Fine," she replied.

In a compartment of KTV, Mond sat on the couch drinking alone. Two under-dressed women leaned on his shoulder, and the rest sat near him. Although they tried to flirt with him, they didn't dare to do more than that because he was in a bad mood. He had been looking moody all night and shouting at waiters unnecessarily.

All of a sudden, Mond fixed his eyes on a slender woman. As she wore a lot of makeup, he couldn't see her features clearly. In the dim light, she resembled Cherry a great deal.

With a commanding air, pointing out the slender woman, he said," You, stay. The rest of you, out."

The rest of the women didn't dare to complain when they heard his words. They just shot pitiful glances at him and stared at the lucky girl in anger. 'She is so lucky to have attracted Mond's attention. If he gets her pregnant tonight, she could become a millionaire overnight, ' they thought with envy.

"How could she be chosen?"

"Why did Mr. Mond hit on her?"

Several women walked towards the exit while whining.

The woman left inside pretended to be innocent, looking at Mond silently.

Mond shook his head in an attempt to shake off the liquor setting in. He looked at the woman closely and realized it wasn't Cherry, just someone else as skinny as her. However, the woman was also beautiful.

Mond turned his head away, picked up his glass and downed the whiskey inside. It burned his throat but made a warm glow spread across his body.

"Mr. Mond, are you alright? You don't look very good," the woman asked with concern.

The music stopped at that very moment and Mond could clearly hear what the woman had said.

"What's your name?" Mond asked suddenly.

"I'm Kathy," Kathy answered while watching Mond intently. 'He has fine features and his eyes brim with some kind of emotion. I can't tell whether it is sadness or hidden desire. He has a complicated look on it, he is probably preoccupied, ' she thought.

"Kathy," Mond repeated her name.

"Yeah. My mom told me that it was raining during her labor," Kathy said to him.

"Do you think I would've been a happy child if my father had kept my mother's company? I would've had a complete family and a totally different childhood," Mond asked, his eyes reflecting a hint of sadness.

Kathy didn't dare to reply as she stared at Mond, not knowing how to comfort this pathetic shell of a man.

"I have never met my father. I have only seen his face in pictures. My mother left me when I was a child. Therefore, I had to toughen up and be strong. That is how I have managed to survive in this world so far," Mond said bluntly.

He had never confided in anyone before.

But getting these things off his chest made him feel really good. All the resentment that he had kept to himself all these years had caused him a great deal of pain, which seemed to be lessening now.
