(Love what a piece of shit)
Long shadows danced on the wall of the drably lit bedroom as Jack slowly paced back and forth. "I have never thought you would hate me so much to this point," he said disappointedly in languid tones.
The thought of Emily's intent to murder him for another man sent daggers to his heart. It drove him mad to the point that he wanted to kill someone too just to vent his anger out. He paused walking and turned his head to the side, then questioned her, "Who gave you the dagger?"
If his memory served him right, there was no way Emily could get a hold of those dangerous items, so who betrayed him?
However, Emily refused to say a single word to him at all, and instead blurted out whatever things came into her mind. "I picked it up from streets," she said and rolled her eyes.
"Even though you don't want to reveal anything, I can also find ways to dig this person out. What if, I torture everyone you've met till I find out who this person is?" he said with a dark and malevolent gleam in his eyes.
Yet, Jack's threat didn't make Emily feel afraid nor anxious at all. She surprisingly burst into laughter, followed by bouts of uncontrollable coughs. Her cold gaze turned to Jack.
"Even with such threats, do you think that I, a person with her heart filled with hatred, will even care about the lives of others?" she said in between slight gasps before finally managing to stop the coughs.
"Well, that's true," Jack said thoughtfully after a while. His eyebrows knitted and his lips curled downwards into a cynical scowl.
"You are really ruthless now, and even much more ruthless to me," he grimly said. "But right now, the police are outside. You know, if I wish, I could make your life a living hell for you in jail," he added.
Once again Emily's face was totally devoid of any emotion. Her eyelashes only batted a little, but she did not speak a word.
A masculine hand reached out and gently stroked Emily's abdomen.
Jack gently rubbed her belly with a savage smile on his lips. "Of course, this baby won't be born smoothly, either," he said with a devious look on his face.
"Now, here's your last chance, Emily. His fiendish expression made Emily unconsciously bit on her bottom lip.
The force of her upper teeth splitting the thin skin caused a small droplet of blood oozing from her lip.
His cold eyes suddenly turned into an endearing gaze, but the deranged look still lurked behind his deceitful orbs. It made his aura even more chilling when he opened his mouth to speak.
"Apologize to me, then I will let bygones be bygones as if nothing even happened, and we can be still the same as before, okay?" he said the words to Emily as an ultimatum.
However, Emily only stared at him icily and simply said, "What if I say no?"
The gentle look diminished from Jack's face and the light in his eyes dimmed. "If so, I have no choice but to hand you to the police outside. I know you are smart, Emily. So don't push me to do it!" Jack said bleakly.
"You can fool yourself, Jack, but don't you think it is meaningless? I hate you! And I can't hate you more! It's impossible to take it as if all of these had never happened before!" Emily shouted.
"So, you won't?" Jack asked, just to be sure.
"Yeah, no way," Emily said through gritted teeth, her eyes full of hatred.
An inaudible sigh escaped from Jack's lips. "Alright. Good,"
Jack sarcastically said and nodded.
At this point, his aura darkened as if he was shrounded in a black mist and a dreadful storim was brewed. "You won't?
Even if you were arrested, even if it would be worse than death in jail and even if you won't be able to give birth to the baby…" his every word came out like they were tightly squeezed out from his lips. He had made every dangerous threats as possible already, so he couldn't understand why Emily would refuse.
"Yes, I won't. Over my dead body! Don't you know? It can't disgust me more to be with you for even a second," Emily replied with all the resentment she could put in her voice. The room became deadly silent for a while.
Jack simply stared at her. He seemed to hear something only he could make out. It was the sound of his heart that got trampled on by Emily. His heart that burned with so much love for her, but was coldly smashed like broken glass--and even with a bleeding hand, he still tried to pick up the shattered glass.
So what? She never wanted his love.
"Disgusting? Then I have to disgust you like this forever until you get used to it one day," Jack said. A cruel laugh suddenly tumbled out of his lips.
"Try to get away from me by going to the jail? In your dreams!" Jack added dangerously.
After he said those, he rushed towards Emily without warning and crushed her body into his. He dipped his head down to hers and captured her mouth to sharply bite her lower lip. He didn't let go until he tasted the salty tang of blood.
"Even if you die, you won't be able to leave me," he said in a wicked voice. He remembered that she came to him out of her own will, gave him the softest of smiles, became gentle with him, and said she loved him as well...
All of those were just for show. She messed with him first, so she had to pay!
Anger clouded Jack's vision and he went out. He made sure to pick up the dagger and lock all the doors and windows as he did so, in case Emily would run away. Emily just laid on the soft bed that was stained with Jack's blood, which made her look like a mess.
She was thoroughly confused. After all that happened, she couldn't believe that Jack still wanted to keep her around…
To torture her, perhaps? He didn't even have to do anything. Just the simple fact that he was around her was already enough to be her greatest torment.
How could she even properly articulate everything she felt in living under the same roof with the very murderer who killed her lover? Every night, she suffered fitful sleeps as she tossed and turned restlessly on the bed. She had never felt so helpless as the resentment burned into flames, and continued to consume her heart.
She was incapacitated now. Jack felt like he should always be on the watch at all times. Maybe, she might never get a chance as good as this ever again…
"Sorry, Jacob. I was unable to avenge you..." Emily was on the verge of tears as she silently apologized to Jacob.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Jack worried that what he did might have hurt Emily so he called for a doctor to check her up. After the call, he couldn't help but curse himself for being so cheap.
Why was it that he always became softhearted towards this woman in the end? It was obvious that she hated him and wanted to kill him, but why was he still afraid to hurt her even a bit?
Love, what a piece of shit!
He decided to send away the police outside his house, then only after that did he have the time to have his wound dressed by the maidservant. The cuts from Emily's knife weren't that deep, but it gushed a lot of blood and looked appalling.
The maidservant who was called was shocked when she saw his wound. "Master Jack, why did you bleed so much? Did Mrs. Gu..."
"Mind your own business. Don't mention her!" he yelled and cut her off. The look on his face was so terrifying that the maidservant got too scared to even respond. Her trembling hands proceeded to clean and dress the wound, her head downcast as she tried her best to avoid looking at him.
When it was finished, the maidservant quietly went away. Jack didn't bother to change his clothes. Instead, he walked over in front of Jacob's photo displayed on the wall. His eyes sent daggers at the image and he wished he could poke a hole on Jacob's face.
No wonder Emily said that she would put everything down, because what she actually meant was that she could put everything down after she killed him for revenge tonight.
Oh, he just flattered himself. Jack couldn't help but make a laughing stock out of his situation now.
The Jacob in the photo was smiling with the corner of his lips curled up a little, which made him look somewhat superior. It was like he was mocking Jack because sometime ago, he lit incense for his own enemy, and ate at the same table with him all those days, just like a fool.
"Bang!" Suddenly, Jacob violently kicked the ashtray in front of him. His hands grabbed Jacob's picture frame from the wall and quickly walked upstairs.
The doctor had just finished his checkup and came out of Emily's room. When he saw Jack, he respectfully reported her physical condition to him. Now that there was nothing wrong with her body, Jack sent the doctor away and walked into the room.
The door burst open and revealed Emily who now stood by the window. Her eyes seemed to wistfully look at something Jack didn't know. When she sensed his presence in the room, she turned around.
In turn, Jack sauntered towards Emily with Jacob's photo in one hand. He cornered her against the wall until her body was fully trapped between himself and the concrete. An evil grin danced across his face.
"What do you want..." Emily squirmed and asked uneasily.
As soon as the words slipped out of her lips, she felt something loosen around her neck. She looked down and saw that Jack had ripped off the little glass bottle that she wore around her neck, which contained Jacob's cremated remains.
Before she could even snatch it back, Jack had mercilessly thrown the tiny bottle on the floor together with the picture frame. The glass of both objects shattered with a resounding crack.
"Bang!" The whole thing seemed to play out like a slow motion in Emily's shocked eyes.
The ashes were now scattered on the floor along with the fragments of broken glass. Tears welled up in Emily's eyes as she stared dumbfounded at the broken mementos, feeling like her heart was shattered as well.
