“The SARS official met my husband on the floor and shot him again” – Widow of taxi driver allegedly shot dead by SARS operatives

Mrs. Gift Jibade, wife of a taxi driver identified as Ajibade Ademisoye who was allegedly killed by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on Monday September 25, in Rumuakunde community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State staged a peaceful protest alongside her husband’s relatives, demanding justice for her murdered husband.

It was gathered that the SARS men carried the deceased away from where they shot him and used plantain leaf to cover him, but were busted by a lady in a nearby farm who raised alarm. Youths from the community came out in their numbers and started throwing stones at the SARS operatives, who quickly drove off in an unidentified vehicle without plate number.”

A team at Sun Yat-sen University used a technique called base editing to correct a single error out of the three billion "letters" of our genetic code.

They researchers made embryos to remove the disease beta-thalassemia, which the embryos were not implanted.

The team says the approach may one day treat a range of inherited diseases.
Base editing alters the fundamental building blocks of DNA: the four bases adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine.
They are commonly known by their respective letters, A, C, G and T.

New look at the evolving software engineering jobs market (Hired platform)

Hired, a recruiting platform that connects companies with tech talent, published a new report this week on the state of software engineering jobs that suggests contract workers can make more than full-time software engineers.

According to its data, which comes from 175,000 interview requests from 10,000 companies on the platform (they have to state how much they are willing to pay an applicant early on in the process), the average 1099 tech contractor currently commands $71 per hour; that comes out to $147,680 a year, assuming a 40-hour work week.

Astronomers have made a new detection of gravitational waves and for the first time have been able to trace the shape of ripples sent through spacetime when black holes collide. 
The announcement, made at a meeting of the G7 science ministers in Turin, marks the fourth cataclysmic black-hole merger that astronomers have spotted using Ligo, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. 

The latest detection is the first to have also been picked up by the Virgo detector, located near Pisa, Italy, providing a new layer of detail on the three dimensional pattern of warping that occurs during some of the most violent and energetic events in the universe.

A student who mistakenly received about $1 million instead of her usual $100 monthly university food grant splashed out on a massive massive 73-day spending spree with her friends.

Sibongile Mani, 27, who was claiming benefits to allow her to study, was said to have undergone a transformation overnight after the cash blunder.

The accountancy student at the Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape, South Africa, gets R1,400 ($100) each month put into her bank account in food and book allowances.

A veteran police lieutenant in Georgia who was caught on camera during a traffic stop last year saying officers "only kill black people" will be fired, authorities announced Thursday.

In dashcam footage from July 2016, first obtained by a WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta, a white woman can be heard telling Cobb County police Lt. Greg Abbott that she was scared to put her hands down because she had "seen way too many videos of cops."
Abbott, who is also white, then says, "But you're not black. Remember, we only kill black people. Yeah, we only kill black people, right?"

International Federation of Women Lawyers has demand arrest of Ekiti lawmaker for allegedly fondling breast of widow and physically brutalizing her

A mother of three, Mercy Ilesanmi, who alleged she was sexually and physically assaulted by a lawmaker in Ekiti state, has sent a petition to the police commissioner Ibrahim Chafe.

International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti has also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the lawmaker Dare Pelemo on allegations of sexual harassment and physical assault on Ilesanmi, a widow.

When the men began to spray money, the police inspector released some gun shots into the air but unfortunately the bullets hit and killed two persons.



6,000 people have been evacuated as a volcano on a Vanuatu island begins to erupt

At Wellington, New Zealand An erupting volcano has forced 6,000 people to flee their homes on an island in the Pacific nation of Vanuatu.

The Manaro volcano on Ambae island has been active since 2005 but recent activity has raised fears of a major eruption.

National Disaster Management Office Director Shadrack Welegtabit says Vanuatu plans to declare an emergency on the island after the volcano's activity level was raised to level four for the first time over the weekend.

More than 60 Roman Catholic theologians, priests and academics have accused Pope Francis of spreading heresy. The group sent a letter of filial correction to the pope and outlined seven heresies they believe he has spread.

None of the authors of the letter is a cardinal, the highest-ranking member of the group is a bishop whose society isn’t a legal church entity.

Those heresies all relate to Francis’ statements on divorce. In 2016, the pope issued a document which made it possible for divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to participate in Holy Communion.

The little baby had an ear infection since last week Tuesday but couldn’t get treatment. Among the excuses reportedly given by 3 Lagos hospitals on why they couldn’t treat her included no bed, health workers’ strike and demand of N250,000 by a private hospital before even touching the baby girl.Her heartbroken parents have been inconsolable.

A 10-year-old boy, identified as Chimobi, has been taken into protective custody by the Lagos State Government after his brother’s wife, Gift Igwe, allegedly set him ablaze at their home on Adenugba Street, Agunfoye, Ikorodu.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the offence of the Ishielu, Ebonyi State indigene, was that he misplaced his trousers and could not produce them when Gift demanded them from him.

Residents of the community, who heard the cry of the victim, put out the fire, during which he reportedly passed out.

FG to reveal account details of IPOB sponsors

The Federal Government will be giving the French Government account details of the sponsors of terrorist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

The Nigerian Government had through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that France was the headquarters of IPOB’s funding. But the European country on Thursday said it had no knowledge of IPOB’s presence in France.

But a very senior government official said the Federal Government had reached out to France, explaining that it did not accuse the country of being the sponsors of Biafra but that a large transfer of funds were made regularly from France to IPOB in Nigeria.



Enugu State Police arrested two native doctors who caught with human parts

Two native doctors have been arrested in Enugu and Delta states for trading and trafficking in death. One of them, Felix Akor, was arrested for allegedly hiring assassins to kill Onyemaechi Eze in Enugu State, who he suspected used diabolical means to kill his wife’s siblings.

Akor was arrested along with one of those he hired to kill Eze. Another doctor was arrested in Delta State for being a member of ritual killer gang. The gang tricked a commercial motorcycle rider to a certain location, killed him and cut off his vital organs. The alleged killer, hired by Akor, is identified as Idoko Onyekachi of Ifuroka Amalla in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
